ITINERARY

DAY 1 Penguins hatching sanctuary*

The arrival will be to the capital of the southernmost region of Chile, Punta Arenas, offering the magnificent view to the Magellan Strait. After landing the first stop is Otway Bay that shelters a Pinguin hatching sanctuary 65 kilometers, in direction to Torres del Paine and northwest of the Brunswick peninsula. During this impressive tour it is possible to observe, moreless 6,000 individuals of the Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) that nest in this area. During your visit you will see plenty other species of birds such as the Caiquén, Ñandú, etc. Continuing the trip we will arrive to the city of Puerto Natales, located beside the shore of Seno Ultima Esperanza where will be stay the night in Altiplanico hotel located 10 minutes from the city center, beside the sea, overlooking the Balmaceda glacier.

DAY 2 Full Day Torres del Paine

In the morning, you will be able to see from the hotel the vast range of colors reflected in the quiet waters of the Seno de Última Esperanza. Then you will head towards the heart of Patagonia, the majestic Torres del Paine National Park, a world biosphere reserve where you can explore the most impressive natural wonders. You can admire glaciers, lakes, forests, mountain ranges, and of course the striking Paine “towers” as well as the “horns”, the hallmarks of the Chilean Patagonia, with colorful lakes at its feet that go from turquoise and emerald to aquamarine, providing the perfect contrast. Also, you will see the millenarian Gray Glacier ice, falling into the lake that bears the same name, where you will be eating a gourmet picnic. After that there is a 45 minute walk to the peninsula’s end, where you can see amazing icebergs floating. At sunset, you will return to Puerto Natales.

DAY 3 Serrano and Balmaceda Glacier

The water excursion will be begin at 08:00 a.m. boarding a boat in Puerto Natales, to enjoy an experience that will take you through the legendary Patagonian channels. The ship starts navigating by Puerto Bories, old meat processing factory with Victorian architecture declared historic monument in 1999. After an hour, you will see a landscape surrounded by hills, forests, natural waterfalls and magnificent condors, i.e. Fjord Eberhard, first point of colonization in the province. Then you will observe the Ultima Esperanza Fjord and the Cerro Ballena. After two hours of navigation, the ship reaches an area called Cormoranes Point where you can see these huge birds and admire an impressive colony of sea lions. At last, the boat approaches the Balmaceda Glacier and stops at the Serrano Glacier, docking at Puerto Toro, in the middle of a national park. There will be a 1km hikking through native forest that will take you to the spectacular Serrano Glacier, where it is common to see huge chunks of ice fall into the waters of the fjord. In the way back to Puerto Natales, the boat stops at Estancia Perales to enjoy a typical Patagonian lamb roast.

DAY 4 Kayak and horse ride*

Next day begins with transfer to Puerto Prat, 20 kms. north of Puerto Natales, place where kayaking will begin. We will row from fjord Eberhard, to Estancia Puerto Consuelo. The afternoon will begin with a wonderful ride in the surroundings of fjord Eberhard. Views during this trip are one of the most stunning in the region. You will be horseback riding between lengas and coihues, the two beautiful Chilean species of trees that populate the region, through mountain passes and streams. On clear days you can see Torres del Paine National Park.

DAY 5

After breakfast, you will head towards to Punta Arenas to catch a fly to Santiago where you can see the Southern Ice Fields, the third largest reserve of natural water in the world. At evening you will arrive to Santiago.
